471 (2024). Rachel Boyack to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: What does the Minister consider as the ‘highest standards of animal welfare’ as outlined in the policy ‘Reverse the recent ban on live animal exports while ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare,’ in the coalition agreement between the National and ACT parties, by title and date?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: New Zealand already has a strong reputation for our high animal welfare standards. Determining the highest standards of animal welfare will include a comparison with the standards used in other countries which export livestock. I have signalled to the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) my expectation to receive advice on this matter as part of the process for repealing the livestock export ban.
