468 (2024). Rachel Boyack to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: What evidence, if any, has the Minister seen that resuming live animal exports will have no impact on New Zealand’s export credentials?
Hon Andrew Hoggard: This will be considered as part of the advice I will be seeking from officials and all stakeholders throughout the process of repealing the ban on livestock exports. The purpose of Part 3 of the Animal Welfare Act 1999 is to protect the welfare of animals being exported from New Zealand and to protect New Zealand’s reputation as a responsible exporter of animals and products made from animals. Any changes to the Animal Welfare Act will align with the purposes of Part 3 of the Act.
