433 (2024). Darleen Tana to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: What percentage of the inshore fishing fleet has been fitted with cameras to date, and how does this compare to targets?

Hon Shane Jones: I am advised that as of 1 February 2024, 123 vessels have had on-board cameras installed. This is all of the vessels that are scheduled to have cameras by this date under the Fisheries (Electronic Monitoring on Vessels) Regulations 2017. The Regulations require cameras to be installed on certain types of inshore vessels that pose the greatest risk to inshore species. Lower risk vessels (e.g. rock lobster potting vessels, pāua dive vessels and large number of very small vessels) are not covered by the Regulations. The 123 vessels with cameras to date represent approximately 16% of the total inshore fleet as of 1 February 2024.
