432 (2024). Darleen Tana to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: What percentage of vessels active in Hector’s and Maui dolphin habitats have been fitted with cameras to date, and how does this compare to targets?
Hon Shane Jones: I am advised that as of 1 February 2024, all 105 vessels that require cameras for fishing off the West Coast North Island, and East, South, and North Coast South Island have been fitted with cameras, and that the target has been met.
This represents 94 percent of the in-scope vessels in Hector’s and Māui dolphin habitats. Cameras are yet to be installed on West Coast South Island vessels where the fishery risk is lower.
