416 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education

416 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: "How will the Minister ensure all schools are delivering a “great curriculum" with "the right pedagogy" and are assessing kids along the way, as stated in the New Zealand Listener article on 15 January 2024?
Hon Erica Stanford: I have established a Ministerial Advisory Group (MAG) to review some of the key work the Ministry’s Curriculum Centre is delivering in the English and mathematics and statistics learning areas of The New Zealand Curriculum.
This Group, made up of education and curriculum experts, is looking at parts of the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum, the draft Common Practice Model, and the phase-by-phase guidance, to provide teachers with the clarity needed on year-by-year teaching expectations and how they embed effective practices that reflect the science of learning.
You can find more information on the scope and membership of the MAG at: https://www.education.govt.nz/our-work/changes-in-education/curriculum-and-assessment-changes/ministerial-advisory-group/.
The Group’s independent advice and recommendations will help me make decisions about next steps within the next few months. I am still considering implementation of other commitments in Teaching the Basics Brilliantly and the Literacy Guarantee, including in relation to assessment. My decisions will be supported by evidence and data, and the effectiveness of any changes introduced will be monitored.
