353 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: What is the demographic breakdown of victims of crime, broken down by Māori, Pasifika, Pākehā, and any other demographic groups for which statistics are held?
Hon Paul Goldsmith: Based on the latest published results of the New Zealand Crime and Victims Survey (Cycle 5, 2022), I am advised that 31% of New Zealand adults (aged 15 and above) experienced at least one crime within a 12-month period.
I refer the member to table 1, attached, for the break down by ethnicity.
For the victimisation rates for other demographic groups in Cycle 5 (2022) I refer the member to table 2, attached.
