327 (2024). Darleen Tana to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: What instructions did he provide to officials regarding how they should represent New Zealand's position on CMM 03-2023 at the 12th meeting of the SPRFMO Commission, as it relates to protecting at least 70% of vulnerable marine ecosystems from 2024 (having been proposed by New Zealand and agreed to at the 11th meeting of the SPRFMO Commission in 2023)?

Hon Shane Jones: The proposal to amend CMM 03-2022 at the 2023 Commission meeting came from the Cook Islands (on behalf of an Intersessional Working Group); that proposal resulted in a negotiated outcome. I advised officials that the government needed time to consider the implications and consult with stakeholders on CMM 03-2023 and any changes to it.
