313 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: What is the hourly rate paid to the following lawyers (of medium experience) for acting in a case that is a Crown prosecution and where the person charged may be liable to a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment: 1. a legal aid lawyer 2. a public defence lawyer 3. a Crown Law Office Lawyer 4. a Crown prosecutor?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I am advised that the hourly rates for the specified cases and the level of provider experience is $134 per hour for legal aid lawyers and between $45 and $63 per hour for Public Defence Service lawyers depending on their experience. As Minister for Justice, I do not hold the pay rates for a Crown Law lawyer or a Crown prosecutor, the Member will need to request this information from the Attorney-General Hon Judith Collins.
