Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: Does the Minister agree with Linda Mitchell, professor in Early Childhood Education at Waikato University, that her decision to reverse planned accountability requirements for services makes it easier for them to increase fees in response to parents receiving tax rebates; if not, why not?

Hon Erica Stanford: No. Early childhood education (ECE) service providers have always had freedom to adjust their fees, providing they adhere to funding conditions outlined in the ECE Funding Handbook. The recently reversed funding conditions have not changed this.
