265 (2026). Hon Carmel Sepuloni to the Associate Minister of Education

Written Question
Published date: 11 Feb 2026
265 (2026). Hon Carmel Sepuloni to the Associate Minister of Education: Did the Charter School Authorisation Board determine that the Bangerz Education and Wellbeing Trust was a “fit and proper” organisation to run a charter school during the Trust’s application for an Auckland Sports College, if so, what was the basis of this determination?
Hon David Seymour: I am advised that in 2024, the Bangerz Education and Wellbeing Trust’s Stage One application for Auckland Sports College was assessed as “viable” by the Charter School Agency, and was progressed to Stage Two. At Stage Two, the Trust’s application was assessed as “not viable” by the Charter School Authorisation Board across all criteria and was not selected to contract. At no point did the Charter School Authorisation Board approve the Trust as a sponsor or determine that it was “fit and proper.” This is also my response to written parliamentary question 266 and 1279 (2026).
