260 (2026). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Justice: What advice, if any, did he receive about re-opening nominations to the Ministerial Arms Advisory Group (MAAG) after his Associate Minister transferred decision making responsibility to him and what action, if any, did he take as a result?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I was advised that the Ministry could invite nominations to agencies, groups, and MAAG Chair and members. However, I was satisfied with the two candidates presented to me as they filled the requirements on experience and expertise, as well as the membership balance between the firearm-owning community and the non-firearm-owning community, as determined by ss90(1) and 90(2) of the Arms Act 1983.
