257 (2026). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Justice: Is it the Minister’s view that the process followed in appointing two new members to the Ministerial Arms Advisory Group (MAAG) in November 2025 was a transparent and contestable process and if so, how?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I am satisfied that due process was followed as the two appointees filled the requirements on experience and expertise, as well as the membership balance between the firearm-owning community and the non-firearm-owning community, as determined by ss90(1) and 90(2) of the Arms Act 1983. This was then agreed by Cabinet.
