Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Transport: Was the Minister consulted on the decision that owners of light EVs will pay $76 per 1000 kilometres and if so does he consider that the regulation is reasonable considering the fact that the charges paid through excise on petrol on light petrol vehicles are reported to be considerably less?

Hon Simeon Brown: There are variances throughout the system and that is why the government has started work to move all vehicles to the road-user charges system so people pay based on distance travelled and vehicle weight rather than the type of fuel that is used.
