37 (2025). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Associate Minister of Housing: Is the Government's official definition of homelessness still "people who are without shelter, in emergency and temporary accommodation and living as a temporary resident in a severely overcrowded private dwelling" and if not, why not?
Hon Tama Potaka: The official definition of homelessness, as at 2015 and used by Statistics New Zealand, remains as "a living situation where people with no other options to acquire safe and secure housing are: without shelter, in temporary accommodation, sharing accommodation with a household, or living in uninhabitable housing".
