15 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister for Emergency Management and Recovery: What requirements, if any, are currently in place to ensure timely and enhanced weather and hydrological forecasting is provided to, and used by, all councils and relevant government agencies?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that the National Civil Defence Emergency Management Plan 2015, sets out responsibilities for the provision of scientific advice during the response to an emergency. Under this plan, MetService is required to provide scientific advice on weather forecasting to agencies as needed.
In addition, MetService maintains close relationships with The National Emergency Management Agency and Civil Defence Emergency Management Groups and Councils before and during an event to deliver regular and timely advice on emerging weather hazards.
